1849 – Jeannette Gilder, journalist (d. 1916)

1858 – Eleonora Duse, Italian actress (d. 1924)

1859 – Lilian Whiting, journalist and author (d. 1942)

1860Annie Horniman, British theater patron and manager, established the Abbey Theatre in Dublin and the Gaiety Theatre in Manchester, known for promotion of new writers and playwrights (d. 1937)

1898 – Gertrude Edelstein Berg, screenwriter and award winning actress. She wrote and starred in The Goldbergs, first on radio, then television.   (d. 1966)

1938 – Tereza Kesovija, Croatian singer

1940 – Sheila Fearn, English actress

1568 – Elisabeth of Valois, Queen consort of Spain as wife of Philip II (b. 1545)

1611 – Margaret of Austria, Queen consort of Spain and Portugal as wife of Philip III (b. 1584)

1929 – Jeanne Eagels, American actress (b. 1894)

1981 – Anna Hedvig Büll, Baltic German missionary, responsible for saving the lives of several thousand orphans during the Armenian Genocide (b. 1887)
